Mark it down as three straight wins for the Toronto Raptors, ladies and gentlemen.
In their most recent contest against the Chicago Bulls, the Raptors came out with the same intensity and seriousness that has fueled their recent surge — coming off solid wins over the Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons.
In the first two quarters, Toronto set the tone early, outscoring the Bulls 32-17 in the first quarter and 40-28 in the second, building a commanding 72-45 lead at halftime. But, as we've seen with this Raptors team, holding onto that first-half momentum can sometimes be their biggest challenge — especially in the fourth quarter, where they've occasionally let leads slip or fail to assert any form of competitive edge entirely.
However, as the last two games have shown us, Toronto has proven they can rally and maintain their edge when it counts. And they did just that here, finishing strong for a convincing 139-109 blowout victory against Chicago. Considering where we are now (especially compared to the rough loss against the Pelicans last week), it is a much-needed dose of positive reassurance for this Raptors squad and their fanbase.
Raptors' winning streak is shaping the ideal playoff formula
Watching how these games have unfolded lately, Raptors fans will definitely notice the blueprint of the team's winning formula coming into focus — unfolding in a perfect sequence of events. There's hope that Toronto can sustain and build on this strategy as they head into the most crucial stretch of their season and into the playoffs.
Of course, in a game like this against the lowly Bulls, the Raptors might have had some luck on their side, able to outclass a weaker team on paper. And given their well-rounded performance across the board, it was perhaps something many expected. But seeing every starter reach double digits, each playing with a clear sense of aggression, getting to the line — and winning that battle against Chicago — and translating those free throws into points... this is the kind of Raptors basketball fans have come to appreciate, look forward to, and believe in (at least to a reasonable degree).
It’s the style of play that suggests this team, if they carry it into the postseason, could be a formidable force.
Watching RJ Barrett and Brandon Ingram — two Raptors who often find themselves at the center of fan debates, sometimes for all the wrong reasons — it's been especially encouraging to see them turning their games around. They've been able to get to their spots and score effectively and efficiently in recent outings. Meanwhile, Scottie Barnes continues to shine as the Raptors’ defensive ace, even if his offensive production still leaves room for growth. Still, the impression remains that No. 4 is one of Toronto’s biggest assets, and his defensive impact is simply unmatched and worthy of all praise.
Elsewhere, Jakob Poeltl looks healthy and ready to contribute to the team's playoff ambitions. We've also seen an encouraging uptick in production from the Raptors' bench lately, which I've been very pleased with. That said, there's still room for improvement — I wouldn't say I'm totally blown away by the bench pieces overall, outside of Sandro Mamukelashvili and occasionally Ja'Kobe Walter (as we saw in the game against Chicago). Even with a limited bench, every bit of help they can provide across all facets is crucial.
RJ Barrett said in his post-game presser following the Bulls win: "I think we're just building off how we're playing — how we played the last two games — just trying to build off that, trying to stay consistent and make this, make it a habit of playing like this every night."
It’s vital that these elements work together cohesively to deliver the best brand of basketball. While doing so against Chicago is one thing, the fact that we've seen similar effort in wins over Phoenix and Detroit suggests this team is working diligently to get it right just before heading into the postseason.
Now, we’ll see how the rest of this journey and the trip out West unfold for Toronto.
