Malachi Flynn's NBA journey appears to have come to an end.

Back in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Toronto Raptors held the 29th overall pick, which they used to select Malachi Flynn, an undersized but gritty point guard out of San Diego State.

Flynn's rookie campaign didn't see him take on a prominent role, but as he received more minutes in the latter half of the season, his statistics saw a slight increase.

His final rookie stats were as follows: 7.5 points per game on a 37.4% field goal percentage, 32.1% from three, 2.9 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and nearly a steal per game (0.8), in an average of 19.7 minutes of playing time.

It certainly needed some work, but Raptors fans remained hopeful that Flynn could find greener pastures within the organization. Alas, that expected breakout never materialized. Over time, Flynn gradually slipped down the rotation, with his contributions on the court becoming less impactful.

However, he did see an uptick in his role when new head coach Darko Rajakovic joined for the 2023-24 season — arguably the best he looked during his tenure with the Raptors up to that point. Ultimately, Flynn was traded in the OG Anunoby deal with the Knicks, bringing his time in Toronto to a rather underwhelming end.

After various stints with different NBA franchises post-Raptors, Flynn will now be taking his talents to Turkey, where he is expected to sign with basketball club Bahcesehir. As referenced in an article by Sportando Basketball, originally sourced from Sport24, "the two sides are in advanced talks on a one-year deal worth over $1 million."

Ex-Raptor Malachi Flynn is headed to Turkey

Flynn might not be a standout guard at the NBA level, but he's arguably one of the most unexpected players to record a 50-point explosion, which he achieved with the Detroit Pistons back in April 2024.

Just this past year with the Austin Spurs in the NBA G-League, Malachi Flynn averaged 22.6 points, 4.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, demonstrating that he can still produce on the court — though not quite in the big leagues.

Now, at 27, it's up to the guard to make the most of his time overseas — either becoming the standout player for his club or making enough noise to warrant an NBA comeback down the line.
