Following the 2024 NBA trade deadline, the Toronto Raptors have some holes in their roster due to the departures of three key rotation players: Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, and Davion Mitchell. In return, they only added two new faces: Brandon Ingram and PJ Tucker (who is not expected to report at all). They have three two-way contracts filled, but still have room to add a player to a full-time, standard NBA contract.

Perhaps the Toronto Raptors are preparing to address this with their latest roster move.

Blake Murphy of Sportsnet reported on X (formerly Twitter) about the Raptors' newest addition on a 10-day deal:

6-foot-5 wing Jared Rhoden spent four collegiate years at Seton Hall before going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft. The now 25-year-old had a two-year stint (from 2022 to 2024) as a two-way player for the Detroit Pistons before signing with the Toronto Raptors this past August.

Raptors sign 905 standout Jared Rhoden to a 10-day contract

Rhoden's initial deal was not guaranteed, and he needed to compete with other candidates to secure either a full-time spot or a two-way opening; ultimately, he was waived prior to the start of the 2024-25 campaign as Toronto settled on Jamison Battle.

He would then be claimed off waivers by the Charlotte Hornets, who signed him to a two-way deal in late October, but Rhoden would not last long in the Queen City, as they waived him in late November. Thus, Rhoden returned to the Raptors franchise, signing with their 905 G League affiliate in early December, where he has remained until now.

In 18 appearances for the Raptors 905 this year, Rhoden has averaged the following stats: 15.9 points on 50.7% field goal shooting, 41.9% from three, 6.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in 29.4 minutes of action per game.

As Murphy noted in his X post, Rhoden could struggle to earn significant playing time due to the team's crowded guard/wing positions. Nevertheless, he could seize this opportunity and demonstrate he merits a roster spot for the remainder of the season.

Look what happened with Orlando Robinson in his limited showcase; he ultimately took over a two-way spot as Jamison Battle was promoted to a standard deal. The same could possibly be said for Rhoden at the conclusion of his 10-day stint.
