Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has welcomed a new athlete to his Curry Brand roster: Raptors point guard Davion Mitchell, who has signed a multi-year contract.

Currently, Curry Brand is in the process of developing a roster of noteworthy talents. The latest addition is Mitchell, who joins a group that includes newly-acquired Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox, as well as G-Leaguers Keisei Tominga and Quincy Olivari.

Mitchell joining the Curry Brand also creates a sense of reunion with Fox, as the two guards spent a couple seasons together on the Sacramento Kings, before the ex-Baylor product was dealt to Toronto last June.

The official press release from Curry Brand effectively captures the essence of Mitchell's unique style of play, stating:

"Relentless. That’s the word that comes to mind when watching NBA point guard Davion Mitchell on the basketball court. His athleticism, his speed, his defensive mentality, his competitiveness and desire to be the best, all point back to that word. Always pushing to outwork his opponent and doing whatever it takes to lead his team to victory, Mitchell inspires anyone who watches him to strive for more. It is because of this quality, along with many other attributes he brings to the table, that Curry Brand is thrilled to announce Mitchell as the latest athlete to join their roster."

On the season, Mitchell's statistical averages are as follows: 6.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game. Mitchell's role on the Raptors has fluctuated throughout the season, as he's been placed in and out of the starting lineup, with much of the team plagued by the injury bug.

Much of the opportunity Mitchell has earned can be attributed to his good standing of health, appearing in 43 of the Raptors' 49 games played thus far. But of course, it's his standout defense that earned him a fitting moniker of "Off-Night" which continues to be his NBA claim to fame. While he doesn't stick out as an offensive threat, you can bet on Mitchell sticking to opposing defenders like an industrial-level adhesive.

Now, his efforts on that end are extending further beyond the court, as one of the greatest point guards to ever grace the court is recognizing Mitchell for his hard-nosed philosophy. Curry would give the following statements in the previously mentioned press release:

"When we started out in 2020, I had a vision for what this brand could embody, and part of that vision was building an athlete roster with individuals who share the same values I do. Davion has a special fight and fire in him that I absolutely love, in addition to being an incredible basketball player and a strong member of his community... I’m proud to have him join the brand and officially welcome him to the team."

Mitchell also contributed to the press release, stating:

"Stephen Curry is one of the greatest point guards of all time and joining his brand and this roster of athletes is just an amazing milestone in my career. I give a lot of credit to my guy De’Aaron Fox for introducing me to the brand and showing me the advantages of these sneakers. The Flow technology has been a game changer for me on both ends of the floor, allowing me to stop and go with precision and stay locked in on defense. And off the court, it honestly feels like I’ve just gained a whole new family. I’m excited to be a part of this team and help grow the brand alongside Stephen, De’Aaron and the entire Curry Brand squad."

There were some doubts regarding Mitchell's future on the Toronto Raptors, given his shared position with rookie Jamal Shead, although the two pitbull-like guards have recently shown to be effective together.

Mitchell is due for a contract extension at the conclusion of this season, and it appears very likely that Toronto and the 26-year-old will work towards a deal that keeps him in the Six for at least a few more seasons. He's had his fair share of ups and downs, sure, but his defense is something you can't replace overnight, and it seems like the Raptors are fully aware of his talents.

Now, as a member of the Curry Brand, the opportunity arises for Mitchell to receive his own signature sneaker at some point in the future, which would be huge for a relatively under-the-radar player. It just goes to show how much hard work can pay off, which is the mantra of Mitchell to the core.
