The last two weeks could easily be titled “the Resurgence of DeMar DeRozan“. Last year’s brightest star has put the team on his back, anchoring them in the tight race for third in the East. With Lowry missing time recently due to back pain, DeRozan’s presence as a leader has been needed more than ever. He hasn’t let his team down.

Though this has not been DeRozan’s best season overall, he will still be expected to take on a large portion of the team’s scoring load during the playoffs. His torn groin, suffered on Nov. 28, hurt his game for a while after returning from the DL. It took DeRozan a while to regain his confidence and shake off the rust.

DeRozan is a dynamic scorer with a knack for creating his own shots in crunch time. He is averaging 20.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. In isolation, he is the team’s best scorer. He can nail jumpers from anywhere within two-point territory with ease, specializing in fadeaways to his left. He can also finish elegantly around the rim with a layup, or violently with a slam. Plus, he doesn’t fear contact, priding himself on his ability to get to the line.

Basically, when Casey needs a clutch basket, DeRozan is the guy to look for. If he can’t score, he is a good enough passer to find someone who can.
