The curious case of OG Anunoby
By Sahal Abdi
Defense, defense, defense
Anunoby reaps the benefit of tremendous physical gifts paired with a raving work ethic. Draft pundits began to take notice of him during last year’s defensive display versus now-Denver Nugget and former Kentucky Wildcat, Jamal Murray. Anunoby soon after became one of the most talked-about prospects in the 2017 NBA Draft.
More and more film study revealed just how exceptional he was on the defensive end of the floor all year-long. He was a true difference-maker in every sense of the word.
Before this 2016-2017 collegiate season began, Anunoby’s pro-potential easily recognized as one of the highest in the Draft as he already ‘checked so many boxes’. He reminds many analysts of former top 10 selection, Stanley Johnson. It’s very easy to make the parallel of current NBA prospects to recent ones. This is why I have made his pro comparison to Portland Trail Blazers combo-forward Al-Farouq Aminu.
OG excels on all phases of defense: man-to-man defending, help defense, switching ability and overall toughness game-to-game.
When you are 6’8 and 235lbs with a wingspan as long as Yao Ming’s height, most guys will struggle scoring on you.
