Toronto Raptors: Five biggest strengths this season
Offensive Versatility
Toronto doesn’t have the top-end scorers compared to some of the elite teams. Other than Kawhi Leonard, no player averaged more than 17 points per game for Toronto last season.
What they do have is offensive versatility. Depending on the night, Toronto has 10 players who can score 20 points on any given night. (Sorry to Norman Powell, but he’ll need to earn consistent minutes before cracking this list).
Just as impressive as the Raptors scoring options are the different ways those options can attack. Toronto has shooters like C.J. Miles and Fred VanVleet, has slashers like Delon Wright and Pascal Siakam, and has post play like Jonas Valanciunas and Serge Ibaka.
No matter where the weakness is in the defense, Toronto has a player to exploit it.
Team’s don’t need to be versatile on offense to be effective. Last season, Houston had a historically great offense by putting a ton of shooting on the court and letting James Harden cook.
But when teams gameplan in the playoffs and start to take away strengths, it’s great to have another option. Toronto should have secondary and tertiary options for every team.
Diversity in your scoring method isn’t necessary, but it’s a nice bonus for Toronto.
