Previewing a Toronto Raptors vs Boston Celtics series that could decide the Eastern Conference
Season matchups and predictions
Friday, October 9th, in Toronto:
Forget the season opener. This is the game you should be most excited for. Toronto and Boston, both well-rested, will face-off against each other in the second game of the season.
It’s too early to draw any definitive conclusions, but the first matchup will provide a nice baseline of what to expect moving forward.
The game is in Toronto, and the crowd should be particularly rowdy for a top-tier matchup. Toronto takes the first matchup. Close.
Toronto 108 – Boston 104
Friday, November 16th, in Boston:
Exactly one month into the season, both teams should have found a nice rhythm by their next matchup on November 16th.
Neither team has a game the night prior, although Boston does have a challenging Utah Jazz game the following night. (Toronto has Chicago who shouldn’t be an issue)
The first game in the garden, the crowd will be electric.
Boston 115 – Toronto 106
Wednesday, January 16th, in Boston:
A two-month break and these teams will head to Boston again for a nationally televised matchup on ESPN.
Adam Silver again makes sure that neither team is on the second night of a back-to-back as both sides will have enough rest heading into this game.
Although it’s in Boston, Toronto finds a win.
Toronto 124 – Boston 110
Tuesday, February 26th, in Toronto:
The final matchup between the two teams comes with more than a full month remaining in the schedule. An odd decision by the league when a game during March would have almost certainly been more eventful.
At this time (hypothetically) down 2-1 in the series, Brad Stevens pulls out a weird chess-move that throws the Raptors off for a 5 minutes stretch and gives Toronto something to gameplan for in their playoff rematch.
Boston 116 – Toronto 104
The Raptors and Celtics are the class of the Eastern Conference and as good as anyone outside of Golden State. You won’t find four more important games on the schedule and matchups like this are what make the NBA fun.
