No. 5: OG Anunoby

Season Win Shares: 0.7          Current cap-figure: $2 million

Formerly a first-round pick out of Indiana, OG Anunoby has yet to string together consistent performances so far this season but has continued to show flashes.

Last season, Anunoby started 62 of his 74 games en route to 5.9 points in 20 minutes per game. This year, he has been relegated to the bench sans five starts. In his starts, Anunoby’s averages have risen to 7.4 points and three rebounds per game in 20.7 minutes.

In terms of production, Anunoby has been a valuable bench piece for the team during his development.

Coming out of college, Anunoby was known for defense rather than scoring ability, averaging a mere 11.1 points per game as a Hoosier in his sophomore year. His final collegiate season was cut short by knee surgery, a factor that played into his late draft-day drop.

Anunoby has continued his trend of defense leading his production this year, producing far more win shares on the defensive end of the court.

The potential on the offensive end was most-readily apparent in his 21-point outburst against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a game in which he once again was starting.

In the game, Anunoby shot 64.3 percent from the field including a trio of three-point makes. If not for five fouls, Anunoby likely would’ve had an even larger game, signaling the franchise has a potentially key piece on their hands if handled correctly.

With a contract under $2 million ($1.95 million), Anunoby has been a valuable role player for the team, with the ability to step in and perform when given the opportunity.

With both Ibaka and Valanciunas struggling with injuries and Leonard coming off a year in which he was injured for nearly the entire year, Anunoby provides the franchise an extremely affordable insurance policy.
