Patrick McCaw

It was a whirlwind of a season for Patrick McCaw. The 23-year old withheld from signing with the Golden State Warriors. Then in December Cleveland signed the restricted free agent to an offer sheet that went unmatched by the Warriors.

After one week in Cleveland McCaw was released. Shortly after his release from the Cavaliers, McCaw signed with the Raptors.

Through 25 games with the Raptors, McCaw averaged two points and one rebound per game. His numbers may not be flashy but that should not distract you from McCaw’s value to this team.

The former Warrior’s best asset to the Raptors is his length. With OG Anunoby only appearing in 67 games Toronto needed another lockdown defender. While he may not produce on the offensive end like Anunoboy, McCaw’s defense is very strong.

His length allows him to disrupt passes and break up passing lanes. McCaw’s ability to jam passes could enhance an already strong Toronto defense.

During the postseason his minutes were unsurprisingly reduced. He appeared in the first half of a playoff game a limited amount of times. However, with Fred VanVleet struggling in the earlier rounds Nick Nurse loosened the reigns just a bit.

At just 23 years of age McCaw is a very smart basketball player. Having been in the Golden State Warriors system has undoubtedly helped his development. It would be in Toronto’s favor to re-sign him this upcoming summer.
