Matt Thomas

"“I know I’m a sure shot” (Jodeci Freestyle)"

Drake asserts that he’s a “sure shot” – no matter what he releases, his fan base is so rabid and loyal that it’ll rocket up the charts. In a similar vein, whenever Matt Thomas fires a jumper, he’s got a pretty good chance of making it.

According to Synergy’s tracking data, Thomas posted an 82 percent effective field goal percentage on catch-and-shoot opportunities in the EuroLeague last season, including an unthinkable 99 percent eFG when he was left open (effective field goal percentage accounts for the fact that three-pointers are worth 50 percent more than twos).

While Thomas almost certainly won’t shoot quite as well in his first NBA season this year, he’s still a sharpshooter. Expect him to take plenty of catch-and-shoot triples when he gets the chance.

Terence Davis

"“It’s feeling like a second chance and it’s the first impression” (Same Mistakes/Fall For Your Type)"

Terence Davis is another incoming rookie for the Raptors. Even so, it feels a bit like a second chance for him in the NBA, after he went undrafted in June. Davis played just one Summer League game for the Denver Nuggets – lighting it up for 22 points – before the Raptors snatched him up on a two-year contract (first year guaranteed).

Davis has made quite the first impression on Raptors fans, averaging about 18 points, five rebounds, and six assists this summer. You’d have to figure he comes into the NBA with a chip on his shoulder after every team passed up the opportunity to draft him.

Much like how the Raptors found VanVleet in 2016, they’ll hope to see Davis develop from an undrafted guard into a quality rotation player for a playoff team.
