The Toronto Raptors should make a trade for Alec Burks
Wing players that could be available
The most intriguing name who could become available before the trade deadline is Robert Covington. Covington has become one of the better 3-and-D wings in the NBA. He is currently averaging 12.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Covington is also a career 35.8 percent three-point shooter.
Entering the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves had hoped to be a playoff team. But they have failed to live up to expectations and are 12-20 good for 12th in the Western Conference. If the T-Wolves start focusing on lottery balls, Covington could be on the move.
According to multiple reports, the New Orleans Pelicans are reluctant to put J.J. Redick on the trade block. But if the sharpshooter does become available, there won’t be any shortage of teams vying for his services.
Another name to monitor is Marcus Morris of the New York Knicks. The Knicks continue to be in a state of disarray. They are heaing for the lottery yet again and could look to sell off a number of veterans before the trade deadline.
Most would-be contenders will be chasing players like Covington, Redick or Morris. Any one of them will cost a first-round pick, plus possibly an additional asset. As such, a team like the Raptors may want to find a cheaper alternative.
One team that is rumored to be open for business is the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have been the NBA’s most successful franchise over the last number of years. They’ve made five straight Finals appearances, resulting in three championships. However, the departure of Kevin Durant, as well as injuries to Steph Curry and Klay Thompson has led to somewhat of a transition year.
It has been reported that the Warriors are prepared to sell off a number of veterans, the most intriguing of which is 28-year-old shooting guard, Alec Burks.
