Bench Grades

Toronto Raptors. NORMAN POWELL. A+. Climate change IS real…look, we’ve never seen a Powell storm last this long before. The Raptors’ guard posted a fifth consecutive 20+ point game on Monday, marking the longest such streak of Powell’s career, and it has the UCLA product directly in the trade crosshairs ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline. Powell’s hot shooting in the fourth helped lift his team to victory after he and his teammates struggled mightily on offence in the second and third stanzas. Plain and simple, this version of Norman Powell is what everybody has been waiting for.. Shooting Guard

C+. Ibaka had reached double figures 13 straight times before falling short against Atlanta, notching eight points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes. Hit a pair of big threes and finished with the best net rating on the Raptors, at +14. Missed seven of 10 from the field; Ibaka definitely has work to do ahead of Wednesday’s pivotal matchup with the 76ers. Like Gasol, could benefit from a break.. Center. Toronto Raptors. SERGE IBAKA

C. McCaw logged 22 minutes of action, finishing with two points, four assists and three steals. He only attempted two field goals, rarely looking for his offence except in transition scenarios, though, the polarizing bench player didn’t see many of those on Monday. Nurse’s reliance on McCaw remains perplexing to many Raptor fans, most of whom feel Terence Davis is more deserving of the role currently occupied by McCaw, a three-time NBA champion. Several ball-handling gaffes against the Hawks in late-game scenarios could impact his minutes moving forward.. Shooting Guard. Toronto Raptors. PATRICK MCCAW

B+. The rookie guard logged 19 minutes of action and finished with 12 points, four assists and four rebounds. Shot 5 for 10 from the field and made two of six from downtown. You’d think three scoreless outings over a six-game stretch would shake a young player’s confidence, but Davis is not your average rookie and has consistently shown an ability to bounce back after rough outings. With more time and experience, the 22-year-old figures to challenge Patrick McCaw for minutes as the season progresses.. Shooting Guard. Toronto Raptors. TERENCE DAVIS

B+. RHJ was his usual frantic, high-energy self and wound up finishing with seven points and 10 rebounds across 20 minutes of action. As he’s been known to do, Hollis-Jefferson assaulted the glass every second he was on the floor and was also a defensive standout for the Raptors in this one, but since reaching double figures in three straight, the forward has been stuck in single digits in each of his last seven.. Power Forward. Toronto Raptors. RONDAE HOLLIS-JEFFERSON
