5. Norman Powell

Opponent: Atlanta Hawks

Stat line: 27 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steals

With this Raptors team finally being healthy, the question became who was going to take a back seat for the betterment of the team? Many thought it would be Norman Powell, but he has proven again and again that he’s a mainstay in this roster.

Last week was no different.

Against the Hawks, Powell was not as active in the first quarter, scoring only two points to go along with one assist and a steal. Powell struggled early on in this game and it showed in the Raptors performance. The Hawks rallied back in the second quarter and quickly erased a big deficit to lead by three heading into halftime.

The halftime break helped Powell review where he went wrong and correct his mistakes and it showed on the court as he came out firing in the third quarter, scoring eight points with a steal as the Raptors regained a one-point lead heading into the fourth. That is when Powell really turned on the jets. He caught fire and scored 17 points in the quarter and helped breathe some life into the Raptors offence as they were able to rally and win the game by five points.

This was a huge clutch performance from Powell in the fourth as he was making everything he shot. This has been Powell’s best year as a pro and knowing that he is locked up for multiple years passed this one has to make Toronto’s front office happy.
