Toronto Raptors: Top five performances from perfect week 15
1. Terence Davis
Opponent: Chicago Bulls
Stat line: 31 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 80 FG%
What a night it was for Terrence Davis.
The Toronto Raptors received bad news on Norman Powell’s injury so like this team has been doing all season long, it needed someone to fill the void. The two lucky “contestants” against Chicago were Terence Davis and Patrick McCaw. But this night belonged to Davis.
The Chicago Bulls struggled to defend Toronto’s guards, with Davis presenting the biggest challenge for the visitors in this one. Davis scored 13 points in the first half and had his shot clicking. He dropped another 18 in the second half and wound up finishing with 31 points, a new career high for the 22-year-old.
We know how efficient Davis has been as a rookie, playing sporadically. Surely, Davis won’t shoot 80% from the field and 86% from three every night, but it’s nonetheless encouraging to see the young guard find his shot after some cool stretches earlier in the year.
We know Davis can produce at a high level when given heavy minutes. Given 20-30 minutes, Davis is averaging 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in 2019-20. It is nice to know Davis is capable of being productive, regardless of how many minutes he’s given.
Like Fred VanVleet, Davis went undrafted and has been forced to work for everything he’s gotten in the NBA to this point. He’s the latest diamond in the rough found by Toronto’s scouting department and will continue to see plenty of opportunities with the Raptors, especially with Powell being out indefinitely with a fractured finger.
