Toronto Raptors: Who has benefited from Norman Powell’s injury?
By Lee Tanner
Terence Davis
Terence Davis has been the number one benefactor of Norman Powell’s injury. He’s been proving himself all year especially mid-season where the roster was filled with injuries. His defense, three-point shot, and energetic playing style has stood out throughout the season to be the main driving factor behind Davis’ demand for minutes.
This has only been solidified through the past several games where the Raptors have been without Norman Powell.
With Davis missing out on the Rising Stars Game, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that Raptors fans were about to experience a hungry second half of the season from the young guard. Following the unfortunate news of missing out, the young Raptor went off for a career-high 31 points against the Chicago Bulls.
Fans have seen steady growth in Davis’ development from the beginning of the season, where he seemed to be rushing around the floor especially while the ball was in his hands, to where he is currently with a more paced approach to his offense.
Since the January 31st injury, Davis’ minutes have increased by just shy of eight minutes per game from the month prior. With these extra eight minutes, Davis has been trusted with an extra 3.8 more field goals per game and has produced by upgrading from 7.7 points to 13.3 points per game.
These extra minutes have built the confidence of the TD as he has been shooting 47.1 percent from three-point range which is an increase of 10.1 percent from the month of January.
Davis is a continuous must watch during Powell’s absence. This is Davis’ chance to make the NBA regret not putting him in the Rising Stars Game and force their hand in putting him in one of the All-Rookie teams.
