No. 1: Aron Baynes

Ripping Baynes is without a doubt beating a dead horse, but his play at center, and the unfortunate drop in quality between him and the Ibaka/Gasol combination has been the most noteworthy change in the Raptors lineup. Even the most basic examination of the Raptors unveils how bad Baynes has been.

With just 5.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, Baynes is not only disappointing when compared to Ibaka and Gasol, but he’s disappointing when compared to himself. The Raptors splashed the cash for him after his career year in Phoenix, but he looks nothing like the player who appeared to turn over a new leaf.

Baynes hasn’t been able to fill the void for the Raptors

Baynes’ struggles on offense could’ve been mitigated if the physical Australian was able to provide his usual bone-jarring defense. Unfortunately, Baynes has been beaten up by elite bigs and bench players alike, which is a problem for a player that eats up heavy minutes.

There is still more than enough time for Baynes to prove he is worthy of a spot on this Raptors roster. However, with Andre Drummond’s name being thrown around in potential trade talks as the Raptors look to upgrade at that position, his window to show off for Nurse and the front office is closing.
