No. 2: Wayne Ellington, Detroit Pistons

Ellington proved in his game against Toronto that his shooting stroke can take over a game. Ellington led the Pistons to a win by making eight of his 11 3-point attempts, putting up 25 points in the upset win. Even with his performance, his age suggests that he likely isn’t sticking long-term in Detroit.

Despite the fact that the former Tar Heel just turned 33, he is averaging a career-high 10.8 points per game while shooting 43% from 3-point range. In the modern NBA, Ellington’s skillset just keeps getting more valuable by the day.

How would Wayne Ellington help the Raptors?

The Raptors’ bench is pitiful at times with regards to their scoring output. While Terence Davis managed to get bucks occasionally off the bench, his inconsistency and inability to step up as Toronto’s preferred shooting guard off of the bench is really doing a number on Toronto whenever the starters have to sit for long periods do time.

The offense is at its’ best when they play fast, exiting basketball that involves plenty of shots from deep. The best course of action is in the crowded east is to pursue Ellington, give some of Davis’ minutes to him, and watch the ageless wonder snipe from beyond the arc.
