Raptors deadline trade No. 3: PJ Tucker, 2017

P.J. Tucker’s second tour of duty in Toronto wasn’t the biggest move that the club made in gearing up for an ultimately doomed 2017 postseason run – that would be the Valentine’s Day addition of Serge Ibaka just over a week prior. But unlike the slow-starting Ibaka, Tucker didn’t wait long to make his mark.

Tucker, who is now bound for Milwaukee after the Houston Rockets recently dealt him away as part of their on-going rebuilding efforts, meshed instantly with the Raptors as a vocal presence and fierce perimeter defender.

PJ Tucker tried his hardest with the Toronto Raptors

Though he failed to reach double digits in scoring in any of the 24 regular-season games he played with his new team, he became a fan favorite nonetheless, even as he was unable to help the Raps avoid another playoff loss to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Tucker flew the coop in free agency that summer, but still made enough of a mark in his time that the deal was worthwhile.

As for the return, Jared Sullinger was a free agent flyer that ultimately didn’t pan out for Toronto who hasn’t played another minute of NBA basketball since the deal. The second-rounders that Phoenix netted, meanwhile, became Alec Peters and George King, a duo that has since combined for 21 career games played.
