It seems that Eric Flynn was right all along. After being hyper-critical of the Raptors not playing his son, Flynn has received more minutes due to multiple lineup fluctuations. With Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet out, Flynn has been thriving as the Raptors’ new starting point guard.

It’s becoming a pattern for Flynn to topple his career-high game after game, but the effectiveness of the rookie’s play can’t go unnoticed. Against the Cavaliers, Flynn recorded the first double-double of his career with 20 points and 11 assists. A very promising sign, as Flynn’s confidence with the ball in his hands looked VanVleet-esque.

Malachi Flynn is living up to his potential

Flynn would shortly top that performance with an amazing outing against the Atlanta Hawks. Flynn scored 15 points in the fourth quarter alone, along with a frenzy of 3-pointers, almost single-handedly winning the Raptors the game. Everything that Flynn has shown is only the surface level.

With Terence Davis out of the picture, its clear that Flynn is the backup point guard as of now. But with the opportunity he’s been given, Flynn has shown just how good of a player he can be.

There are still many aspects of his game that need improving but that will come with more experience. Despite the Raptors’ struggles this season, the near future looks bright. With the possibility of a lottery pick being within grasp, it could be even brighter.
