Toronto Raptors: 3 West teams Raps could trade with in the offseason
By Mike Luciano
3. Houston Rockets
The Rockets might not have James Harden or Russell Westbrook. However, they do have an emerging young big in Christian Wood, a point guard in John Wall who can still score at a high level, and a pick that will give them the best odds at potentially landing Cade Cunningham. That’s the good news. The bad news is…everything else.
The latest buzz seems to suggest that Wall is on his way out, likely via buyout, and surprise big man Kelly Olynyk could also bolt in free agency. Even with a player like Cunningham and control over the Nets’ draft for the next decade, the Rockets are a long way away from contention, and the Raptors could take advantage.
The Toronto Raptors could pilfer talent from the Rockets.
A sign and trade for the Toronto-born, Kamloops-raised Olynyk would make a ton of sense for the Raptors. Like Oklahoma City, the Rockets have plenty of picks to give away in exchange for a veteran role player.
If Toronto wants to build for the future this offseason, Houston could sate that desire. Wall moving to Toronto is extremely unlikely, but there is a non-zero chance it happens.
Stephen Silas and Rafael Stone know there is a ton of work to be done, and the pieces worth building around on this roster include Wood, Kevin Porter Jr., and whomever they add with their three first-round selections. Everyone else should be on the table, and that could make the Raptors very happy customers.
