Toronto Raptors: 3 glaring holes that need to be fixed this offseason
2. Finding an identity.
The possibility of a Kyle Lowry-less team is looking more and more likely as we push closer to free agency. At 35 years old, Lowry has been the heart and soul of the Raptors for nearly a decade, leading them out of mediocrity and turning them into NBA Champions.
With most of the core members from their 2019 championship roster now elsewhere, if Lowry was to move on, it is safe to say that the Raptors will be in search of finding a new team identity.
The Raptors have demonstrated their strength in numbers with their above-average bench utilization. While still a deep team, the current Raptors roster certainly does not fit the mold of a grit and grind defensive team.
With their youth and explosive playstyle, the franchise is beginning its transition into a new era. In Nick Nurse’s system, we will still see a team that takes pride in their defense but will have to utilize their strengths in other areas of the game to succeed.
What style of play will the Toronto Raptors utilize?
With several knockdown shooters and high flyers on their team, Nurse will likely look to implement an up-tempo game plan, and in turn find their new identity.
By discovering how best to combine the unique talents within their roster, the Raptors will be able to build on their already stellar team chemistry. Once a new team culture is established, the Raptors will be able to isolate their goals more clearly and find success on the court.
