Kyle Lowry rumors: Surprise lottery team wants the Raptors legend

The Toronto Raptors are at a crossroads this offseason. While they are eyeing a quick retool as they try to get back to the postseason, they still might need to say goodbye to franchise legend Kyle Lowry, who is entering the uncertain waters of unrestricted free agency. The monsoon of Kyle Lowry rumors won’t be ceasing any time soon.

Lowry has been linked to teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, who could provide Lowry with a chance to return to his hometown and compete for a championship, and the Heat, who can offer him the opportunity to play alongside a good friend in Jimmy Butler down in Miami.

However, Lowry has been open about how a deal that offers both multiple years and a sizeable bag upfront might be enough to win him over. If the highest bidder is going to win the Lowry sweepstakes, a team that joined the Raptors in the lottery this year might be able to reel him in.

Matt Moore of The Action Network claims that while the usual suspects like Miami and Philadelphia will be interested in Lowry, the Chicago Bulls will also be a team to watch, as Arturas Karnisovas is apparently eyeing a major offseason spending spree in order to get back to the postseason.

Moore claims that the Bulls are in on all the top free agent point guards, including Dennis Schroder and Lonzo Ball.

The Bulls gave up two first-round picks to acquire Nikola Vucevic, but the All-Star center wasn’t enough to get Zach LaVine and Billy Donovan over the hump. Lowry, however, would be a stabilizing presence in the backcourt.

Chicago’s starting point guard last year was Coby White. While he has averaged 14.2 points per game in his first two seasons in the pros, he only shot 40.6% from the floor, and his 3.8 assists per game might hint that he is better suited to playing at shooting guard.

Lowry, who averaged 17.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game last year, could start at point guard while White moves over to the off-ball spot. LaVine playing alongside them in a three-guard attack with 2020 No. 4 pick Patrick Williams at power forward and Vucevic at center would be a lethal combination of offensive skill.

As we have seen with Chris Paul in Phoenix this year, sometimes a future Hall of Fame point guard can whip a young squad into shape and help take them on a miracle playoff run. If the Raptors are unable to bring him back, Lowry could form a very enticing trio with LaVine and Vucevic in Chicago.

Toronto, meanwhile, would have to be a bit frustrated if he left them for a team in the Bulls that isn’t guaranteed a playoff spot.
