3. Malachi Flynn: Finishing at the rim.

Malachi Flynn had a respectable rookie season. The 23-year-old averaged 7.5 points and started 14 games. He was the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month in April. Still, like every rookie, he had weaknesses in his game.

One of the biggest weaknesses was finishing around the rim. For the season, he shot 55.4% within five feet of the basket. At 6-1, Flynn isn’t too short to be effective at the rim. He’s shown he can defend and make 3-pointers at a respectable level, and the next step will involve being a better finisher.

Can Raptors youngster Malachi Flynn improve his finishing?

One of the next steps in his development will be figuring out how to navigate being a shorter player in a league full of giants. For perspective, Trae Young is also 6-1 and, despite all the logo threes, is a better scorer at the rim than from three. Flynn will never score like Trae, but he could follow his developmental blueprint.

Teams will run Malachi off the three-point line and force him to make tough baskets at the rim until he proves he can do it consistently. Becoming a better scorer at the rim should be one of the goals for Flynn and the Raptors coaching staff this offseason.
