Dalano Banton

Banton’s status in the rotation has varied wildly depending on the month. After beating out Malachi Flynn earlier in the year, Banton was removed from the rotation in the middle of the season. After injuries gave him another shot, Banton has allowed Flynn and Armoni Brooks to leap over him.

Banton is averaging just 3.3 points per game. He is shooting 41% from the field and has hit double figures in points just twice since November 15. His 3-point shot hasn’t come along at the same rate as someone like Precious Achiuwa. From where he started the year, Banton has taken a step in the wrong direction.

Dalano Banton has been up and down for the Toronto Raptors.

Despite that, Banton still has value as a developmental prospect. The energy and speed he brings on the defensive end are legit, and he’s already been able to defend multiple positions with a great deal of aplomb. The Raptors need to remain patient with the Rexdale native.

Unlocking a jumper would make Banton’s life in the NBA so much easier, as it would make his explosion off the dribble even more potent. While he’s struggled of late, the fact he’s still getting some minutes when plenty of second-round picks are already out of the league is worth celebrating.
