1. Thad Young, Toronto Raptors

If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it! Ujiri is reportedly all-in on getting Young to stay in Toronto after he reinvigorated their bench last year and provided some nice veteran savvy. 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game don’t tell the whole story of Young’s impact on the team.

Young was an ideal facilitator, constantly finding the open man in transition and defending multiple positions on the defensive end. Ujiri clearly wants him back, and Toronto could always use more versatility on the bench. What’s not to like?

The Toronto Raptors must retain Thad Young.

Young is at the point in his career where he wants to slip a ring on his finger. If you don’t guarantee him a role on a championship contender, you might as well not even bother. If Toronto can sell him on the project they are building, Young could come back into the fold.

Ujiri is playing a somewhat risky game, as he needs to find a way to somehow get Young and Chris Boucher back on the roster. If he can pull that off and get both switchable forwards on the roster, Toronto’s bench could get a major upgrade.
