2. Bones Hyland, Los Angeles Clippers

The Hyland trade, which was brought about amid concerns that he could outgrow his role as Denver’s top Sixth Man, has been a huge failure for both sides. The Nuggets were only able to get back a handful of second-round picks and have seen their bench productivity fall off a cliff, while the Clippers have barely seen him healthy.

Hyland has played in just five games this season with the Clippers, and he has been very below average in his limited opportunities. Hyland is only making 29.7% of his shots with the Clippers. This has been so disappointing that LA has already gone after Russell Westbrook in an attempt to fill the point guard hole that Hyland didn’t fix.

Toronto Raptors: Avoiding Bones Hyland has worked out.

The Raptors are currently bailing water at the point guard spot, with names like Will Barton trying anything and everything to achieve even baseline competency at the position. As tempting as it may have been to trade for a point guard, Toronto may have been proven correct in their desire to upgrade center first.

Hyland will assuredly give the Clippers more value later in his tenure, but it’s hard to look at the trade as anything less than a serious lose-lose move from which neither party has benefitted. At least the Raptors have won the Poeltl deal thus far.
