1. Dallas Mavericks

Mark Cuban can often be a misguided owner, but he has shown a willingness to pay top dollar in the pursuit of making the Mavericks a contender. The Luka Doncic/Kyrie Irving pair clearly isn’t working well, but substandard coach Jason Kidd may have more to do with that than either one of those two players.

The Mavericks went from the Western Conference Finals on the back of Doncic’s heroics to a struggling side that can’t stop my grandmother from driving to the basket, surrenders leads late with alarming regularity, and lacks an offensive structure to the point where Doncic and Irving taking turns trying to make YouTube highlights is the only thing that works half the time.

A change is necessary. Cuban may not think so now, but he will soon.

Will the Dallas Mavericks pursue Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse?

The last time Nurse had a player in the same tier as Luka Doncic, he won a championship on the back of Kawhi Leonard in his first season. While the team plays no defense, Nurse might be able to muster up some extra effort that Kidd seems unable to.

Kidd is clearly on the hottest of seats. Nurse can bring enough acumen to get the defense performing at an average level, allowing while having the privilege of coaching Doncic. Toronto must look out for that very desirable opportunity.
