The Toronto Raptors have found themselves officially locked into the No. 9 seed in the NBA play-in tournament, which is the result of a season that has not gone as planned. After winning 48 games and earning the No. 5 seed just a year ago, Toronto’s winning ways have all but eroded.

Not only are the vibes off due to all of the questions surrounding Nick Nurse, but key names have regressed and an offseason of change looms. Still, far be it from me to criticize a team for trying to win, especially in an age where teams are willing to relegate themselves to years of non-competition in the lottery.

Toronto will need to pull off several unexpected victories if they want any shot of making it to the postseason. While impossible, the uneven nature of the postseason has shown that such a run is by no means improbable.

Toronto Raptors playoff schedule 2023

April 12, 7:30 p.m. vs. Chicago Bulls

April 14, 9:30 p.m. ET or 10:00 p.m. ET, vs loser of 7/8 game (if necessary)

The Raptors have beaten the Chicago Bulls twice this season, usually with a gameplan that involves forcing as many turnovers as possible and limiting the offensive impact that DeMar DeRozan can have in any given game. It’s hard to argue with the results in their head-to-head matchups.

If the Raptors beat the Bulls, they will play the loser of the game between the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat. Atlanta has beaten Toronto a few times this season, but they have a very poor defense. Miami hasn’t always faced Toronto while fully healthy, but they still lost three of their four games.

Should the Raptors continue defying the odds and win that game, they will be handed the No. 8 seed and an unenviable matchup against the mighty Milwaukee Bucks. This likely won’t lead to a historic upset, but you never know!

The Raptors’ season could either finish on a very positive note or come to an unceremonious end on the back of some truly rank performances. It will be up to Nick Nurse and his wandering eyes to lead this team on a path of success.
