Raptors: 3 two-way free agents who could replace Gary Trent Jr
By Nolan Fluke
1. Caris LeVert
A contract that would be closer in cost to a Gary Trent deal, LeVert could be locked up for several years this off-season. After a medical issue and injuries plagued his breakout season, LeVert found a home in Cleveland and showed out amongst their best.
Playing 30 minutes per game off the bench, LeVert tallied 12.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. He also managed to shoot 39% on 4.4 3-point attempts per game, making him one of the best mid-volume shooters in the league. Bringing outside shooting along with a secondary ball handler and playmaker, LeVert is one of the best guards on the market.
Caris LeVert might thrive with the Toronto Raptors.
On the other end of the floor, LeVert maintained a statistically high matchup difficulty with great defensive metrics. His on-ball and passing lane defense are comparable to that of Gary Trent, and replacing him could be seamless. One of the best possible two-way signings the Raptors could make, LeVert should be on the radar.
The only question comes to his cost, which could be closer to Gary Trent’s expected value. Finishing off this healthy season with some of the best shooting of his career, LeVert will be sought after by the Cavaliers and every franchise in need of a guard.
A price war could inflate this contract and leave the Raptors offering more, but a veteran guard who has proved himself worthy of starting position could be a great take for the Toronto Raptors.
