The Raptors world got sent into a frenzy when official word finally dropped on a blockbuster Kawhi Leonard trade bringing him back to Toronto. Just about two weeks has passed since the Clippers and Raptors were reported to be in the works of finalizing said trade stunner, but after some bizarre developments in the time since, the Klaw-Toronto reunion has taken on a new element of suspense.

The controversy surrounding Kawhi Leonard from his time on the Los Angeles Clippers is likely no secret to basketball fans by now. The infamous Kawhi-Aspiration scandal surfaced last September, and in the aftermath, the NBA has been conducting an ongoing investigation to figure out if such allegations against the accused parties are true.

That has been a bad shadow following Leonard for almost a year, and now it's also become a thorn in the Raptors' side as they work to finalize this new Kawhi deal.

As a result, the trade has been put "on hold" pending the results found by the league inquiry. The Raptors' statement on the matter, released on July 9, indicated that they were willing to wait for the investigation to be completed.

However, despite this strange chain of events, the Klaw hasn't let it stop him from supporting embracing his storybook Raptors return. Kawhi Leonard attended Kyle Lowry's one-day contract retirement press conference and festivities last week, showing his support for his co-star from the iconic 2019 championship run.

But that's not all in the wacky Kawhi-Raptors summer 2026 saga, as the Klaw was just spotted in attendance for Toronto's Summer League matchup against the Indiana Pacers this afternoon.

Kawhi Leonard is seemingly all-in on his Raptors return despite odd trade drama

Another X clip posted by Raptors reporter Esfandiar Baraheni would show another perspective from the game, with Leonard embracing Larry Tanenbaum, ex-teammate Danny Green, and Bobby Webster who can also be seen in the video upon closer inspection.

While the mega trade has yet to reach 'official' status, and that uncertainty may have some fans on edge, it also appears that Leonard is gradually getting back up to speed with being part of the Raptors family despite the strange developments. The hope is that this entire fiasco holding up the Raptors' ultimate comeback can be resolved in the coming weeks. Barring any significant penalties to Kawhi Leonard in the aftermath, he should be able to settle back into Toronto with a fresh start.

From there, the waiting game continues ahead of next season. Perhaps the Raptors can make additional moves — whether looking to those remaining in free agency, considering some of their Summer League standouts (like Seth Lundy or Jamarion Sharp), or executing further trades to iron out the kinks in their roster.
