Luc Mbah a Moute

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute is a terrific defender and an experienced role-player. He ranked in the top 20 in defensive rating for all players this past season and can provide the Toronto Raptors with some defensive juice both in the paint and on the perimeter.

Not a real offensive weapon, Mbah a Moute still can stretch the floor and keep defenders honest. He shot 36% from outside this past season. Not remarkable, but acceptable enough to elevate him among the Andre Robersons and Tony Allens of the world.

For Raptors’ fans the easiest comparison is an older, less explosive OG Anunoby. Mbah a Moute doesn’t have quite the shot or offensive balance that Anunoby has, but as a 10-year veteran, has learned a few more tricks to make up for his offensive shortfalls. If Anunoby is able to play 30 minutes a game next season, Mbah a Moute could slide in for the remaining 18, giving the team at least one ace-defender on the court at all times. (Please note: This does not suggest Mbah a Moute is as good as OG, just that their games have similar characteristics)

His contract this past season was a team-friendly $2.1million this past season, so the Taxpayer MLE would be a sizeable upgrade. With Houston’s payroll expected to sky-rocket thanks to the restricted free-agency of Clint Capela, it’s easy to see the Rockets parting ways with the 10-year veteran.

A recent article from Vimal Sivakumar summed up exactly why the Raptors should go after Mbah a Moute, for a more in-depth look at Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, please give that a read.
