C.J. Miles – Stock Down

A few weeks ago, we spoke about what was becoming of Miles and that pesky GoDaddy curse. Three weeks later and not much has changed, except the introduction of a hip abductors injury, which could keep C.J. sidelined for up to a week.

His last game was the Saturday game against New York, and in fairness, he looked defensively engaged. He was active with his hands and contributed with two steals and a block, his rebounding has been a bright spot as well. C.J. is clearly committed to making it work in a defensive system that requires intensity.

But offensively, it’s clear we have a problem. A big, big problem.

C.J. is shooting a career worst 30-percent from the field and looks rushed and uncomfortable every time he’s setting himself up to shoot. He’s always had a quick release, which when it works, looks smooth and crisp. But at this point it’s like playing hot potato, it’s not looking good and obviously isn’t working.

Miles was 2-8 from the field against the Knicks, 1-5 from three. His teammates were giving him the looks but nothing was clicking. It’s worth noting, however, that his mid-range game looks a lot cleaner than his three-point shooting.

This could well be a confidence issue, but whatever it is, it needs to change. And fast. Maybe a weeks rest could do the world of good for C.J., you have to hope so anyway. As the rotations tighten, C.J. will have limited opportunities to make an impact. If he doesn’t Miles could find himself pulled from the rotation altogether.

A bumpy ride for Miles so far this year, let’s hope he pulls himself out of the funk.
