Fred VanVleet (PG)

Preseason Ranking: 103
Average Pick: 117.0
Current Ranking: 199

To VanVleet’s credit, it was almost impossible for him to live up to his preseason ranking. He was only ranked 155th in the 2017-18 and analysts assumed he would take a step up this season. But that hasn’t happened so far and the inconsistent offence is to blame.

VanVleet is shooting 40.9 percent and averaging 9.2 points, 4.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.2 threes with just 1.4 turnovers. His assist-to-turnover ratio is still elite, but that is the only thing keeping him on 45% of rosters.

The third-year pro was a revelation last year and was a big reason why Kyle Lowry saw a significant reduction in minutes. But VanVleet has struggled to put it together for long stretches this season, and as the bench struggles as a whole, it’s fair to wonder if he will regain his mojo.

In 21 games, VanVleet has only shot above 50 percent in six games and was held to one or no field goals in five. He’s not contributing much in three-and-D categories nor does he have a good impact on free throw shooting.

Patient owners will keep VanVleet hoping he’ll turn it around at some point. But he’s a safe drop in 12-team leagues, especially since he plays a position with a slew of options.
