5. Brooklyn Nets

What an offseason for the best team in New York. The Brooklyn Nets completely retooled their roster, adding Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant to the roster, while letting D’Angelo Russell momentarily forge a new path with the Golden State Warriors.

If Durant was healthy, you could guarantee the Nets being a top-two team in the Eastern Conference, and definitely one of the all-around best teams in the NBA – but he isn’t, right now, they are not.

Instead, what they are is a middle of the pack, potentially 48-win team with Kyrie Irving leading the line. There’s still a good roster to help Irving carry the load, and Caris LeVert remains a great prospect, while Spencer Dinwiddie will look to prove that the Nets kept the right point guard this summer.

If anyone has a tough task this season, it’s Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson. This season will be the first season where the Nets feel like they can go far in the playoffs. If Atkinson can’t deliver on that, then how confident will the front office feel with him leading the Irving-Durant era in its entirety?

For this season, though, the Nets will comfortably make the playoffs.
