Meaningful offense from McCaw

We criticise Patrick McCaw ad nauseam when his offense isn’t clicking — unfortunately, that seems to be pretty often. But, this is a good PSA: Patrick McCaw gave us some really good offensive moments against the Charlotte Hornets.

In fact, I’d go as far as to say that McCaw gave us a lot of really good moments on offense. He showed absolutely no fear against the Hornets, finishing with 13 points, five rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 1-of-3 from deep.

The offense flamed out in moments where Kyle Lowry and Terence Davis weren’t on the floor, which generally meant that McCaw was doing the majority of the ball-handling, but as a complementary piece in the starting lineup, his impact was generally meaningful.

He went through his usual repertoire, working tirelessly off the ball, cutting to the rim and getting out on the fast break, but he was decisive with the ball in his hands — especially in the first half. He attacked closeouts when they came, was aggressive and took open shots, and looked a lot calmer finishing around the rim.

It’s early days yet, and it might just be a flash in the pan sort of scenario, but it was nice to see, at least.
