Bench Grades

A+. Toronto’s best player on the night, Powell has taken his game to another level this season and especially since returning from a semi-serious shoulder injury. The guard is averaging more than 20 points per game since being re-inserted into Toronto’s lineup and is shooting the ball as good as he has all year long. On Friday, Powell led Toronto in points (28), field-goal attempts (17) and minutes (30). Along with Terence Davis (23 points), Powell carried the Raptors’ second unit against Washington and figures to be relied upon to do that when Fred VanVleet returns from injury.. Shooting Guard. Toronto Raptors. NORMAN POWELL

Toronto Raptors. PATRICK MCCAW. D. McCaw wasn’t that much of a factor in the win and continues to be very hit or miss as far as nightly production goes. As a reliable defender, he’s played himself into a somewhat regular role in Toronto’s rotation, whereas Matt Thomas, an undeniably better shooter than McCaw, is left collecting garbage at the end of blowouts. Like they say…”if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” — but McCaw’s inconsistency on offence might eventually lead to his downfall in Toronto. As a staunch McCaw supporter, typing that last sentence was painful…. Shooting Guard

TERENCE DAVIS. A. Davis casually poured in 23 points in 24 minutes during Friday’s franchise-altering victory. The rookie connected on five threes and continues to gain confidence with each passing minute of floor time, of which Davis is seeing plenty off in his first year in the Association. Davis’ minutes might suffer slightly with the return of Fred VanVleet on the horizon, but his strong play since being called out by coach Nurse should count for something. Led Toronto with seven rebounds.. Shooting Guard. Toronto Raptors

D+. Hollis-Jefferson’s stat line may not look all that impressive — four points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds — but he was his usual, high-energy self in Friday’s win. 29 minutes of action was good to see after Hollis-Jefferson played all of eight minutes in Toronto’s previous game. Judging by tonight’s rotation, Nick Nurse seems to prefer his game to that of Chris Boucher’s, though, it’s a matchup-driven league and both players will get see plenty of opportunity down the road.. Power Forward. Toronto Raptors. RONDAE HOLLIS-JEFFERSON

Matt Thomas, Stanley Johnson, Malcolm Miller, and Chris Boucher each played five minutes at the end of the fourth quarter. None of them played a big enough role to warrant a grade…but they all get A’s if you’re keeping track at home.
