DeRozan’s relationship with the team

Breaking up is never easy and neither is being traded away – especially when you’ve been with the team for nine seasons and are one of the greatest players in franchise history. For DeMar DeRozan, that was the case when the Raptors traded him away to the San Antonio Spurs for Kawhi Leonard two long years ago.

Since then, success hasn’t shied away from the North. The Raptors won their first-ever NBA title last season and were already locked into a playoff spot this year with a 46-18 record in the Eastern Conference.

Still, even after everything, DeRozan shares a bond with the team and it’s nice to see. Of course, we know that Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan are the closest of friends, but DeRozan shared some info on just how close his bond was with the team.

DeRozan noted that he regularly went over to watch the Raptors 905 play in G-League games, with the team featuring both Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet during the 2016-17 season.

“The camaraderie we always had was something else, that was a major part of our success,” DeRozan said after mentioning that no matter what, he was always the first to congratulate the team after he left.

After so many years together, it’s pretty evident that this team had a bond that saturated past the confines of a basketball court and it’s nice to see that that’s still the case now.

This didn’t last very long, but it was a nice distraction for everyone in such a trying time. Hopefully, we can get back to watching Siakam and DeRozan on the court in the near future.
