Raptors Dunk Contest Nominee: DeAndre’ Bembry

When Bembry declared for the draft after his career at Saint Joseph’s, the consensus on him was that he was on the raw side, but his athletic ability and skill attacking the rim should help him have a long career at the professional level.

While Bembry has earned a spot in the Raptors rotation based on the improvements he’s made in his game, as he is shooting almost 60% from the floor, that doesn’t mean he’s lost his athletic ability. In a contest full of young unknowns, Bembry might have more hops than any of them.

The Raptors offense might be extremely effective, but it isn’t necessarily the most show-stopping. Because of this system somewhat neutering his creativity on offense, Bembry could’ve proved to the world he is one of the game’s best dunkers at the contest.

Bembry would have had some stiff competition when compared against some previous Raptors in the Dunk Contest, as Vince Carter’s 2000 performance still stands out as arguably the best in the history of the event. Bembry might not have reached THOSE heights, but he could’ve beaten out Cassius Stanley.
