2. Backup point guard

Eliminating Goran Dragic from the rotation has left the Raptors a bit thin behind Fred VanVleet at the point guard spot. While Banton has been a largely impressive player, his inability to be a consistent offensive threat at this point is forcing Nurse to play VanVleet more than any other player in the league.

The Raptors might not have given Flynn a ton of minutes this season, but outside of some fourth-quarter stat-padding against Sacramento, he hasn’t made the most of those changes. The Raptors need to lighten VanVleet’s load if they want to sustain their winning ways.

The Toronto Raptors need to support Fred VanVleet.

The Raptors could trade Dragic and get a point guard in return that will be able to help this team. If that option fails, they could look to sign a veteran point guard for a league-minimum deal to avoid dipping too far into the luxury tax.

Toronto can lean on VanVleet to help them win games in the short term, but Nurse is running the risk of burning him out before the playoff push comes around. The Raptors may decide to just roll with Banton and Flynn, but that philosophy could be risky considering how they have shot this season.
