It is over ladies and gentlemen. It is over.
While some might already see the 2019 championship era of Raptors basketball as a ghost of the past, one man stood as the lone survivor of that bygone chapter in franchise history — Chris Boucher.
But as I covered yesterday, news broke that Boucher finally found a home in free agency, signing a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the Boston Celtics. I had advocated for the Raptors to welcome Boucher back for another reunion, but with their nearly full roster and lack of urgency to re-sign him, that hope quickly slipped away this summer as Boucher sat on the sidelines waiting to be picked up.
This offseason was also noteworthy, as Raptors fans were blindsided by the sad news of their beloved front office executive, Masai Ujiri, departing the franchise after a 12-year tenure. Those 13 seasons obviously had some ups and downs, but without a doubt, the 2019 championship triumph stands out as Ujiri's biggest achievement.
Now that we can look back and reminisce about the glory days of Raptors history, I think it's only fitting to go down the list of everyone (in no particular order) from that 2018-19 championship squad and see what they’re up to now.
- Raptors President - Masai Ujiri: Parted ways with Raptors in late June 2025, currently focused on his Giants of Africa charitable organization.
- Head Coach - Nick Nurse: Fired in April 2023, he joined the Philadelphia 76ers shortly thereafter, where he remains their head coach today.
- Kawhi Leonard: Left the Toronto Raptors in 2019 free agency to join the Los Angeles Clippers, where he still remains today.
- Kyle Lowry: Stuck around with the Raptors until the 2021 offseason, where Toronto executed a sign-and-trade with the Miami Heat. Lowry re-signed with his hometown Philadelphia 76ers this summer, where the 2025-26 NBA season is expected to be his last.
- Pascal Siakam: Largely took the keys to Raptors mantle in immediate years following title triumph, to varying levels of success. Stuck around in Toronto until January 2024, when they traded him to the Indiana Pacers. With the Pacers, Siakam's team reached the 2025 NBA Finals, pushing the OKC Thunder to a seven-game series before ultimately falling short.
- Fred VanVleet: Left Toronto is 2023 free agency, joining the Houston Rockets, where he still remains today.
- Norman Powell: Raptors traded him at the 2021 trade deadline, has bounced around various NBA teams since then, now a member of the Miami Heat.
