No. 4: Myles Turner

Our next entrant is not especially a “star” but he has been in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation before and boasts a skillset that remains unusual around the league. Myles Turner has been with the Indiana Pacers since he was drafted but has always been in trade conversations as the team never seemed completely sold on him as their long-term center.

Yet he has endured, outlasting Domantas Sabonis and fending off Isaiah Jackson and fitting well with the up-tempe attack now present in Indiana. Yet he is a year away from free agency, and the Pacers are looking at an extremely expensive roster having signed bench players like Obi Toppin and T.J. McConnell to new contracts. If they aren’t prepared to hand him the bag, or are afraid he walks in free agency, it might make sense to trade him now.

If so, Turner would be an ideal fit next to Scottie Barnes. Turner is an excellent rim protector, allowing Barnes to continue roving as he does now with Jakob Poeltl, causing havoc across the court. On offense, Turner can shoot from 3-point range, where he is extremely comfortable, and that would open up the offense in new and exciting ways for Barnes and company.

Adding Turner would obviously mean moving on from Jakob Poeltl; would the Pacers be interested in getting him back as a defensive big under contract for multiple seasons?
