No. 1: Jaylen Brown

The final entrant is the boldest, reigning champion Jaylen Brown. Yet what we just saw occur in Minnesota was very similar to the Celtics’ situation in the coming years, as the second tax apron is such a punitive measure. Could Boston get too expensive to where the front office and owners feel the need to dismantle some of the team?

The Timberwolves saw an opportunity to unlock their future financial flexibility, trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks and significantly reducing their tax bill for this season while giving them the option to get under the second apron in future years. The Celtics, especially as they are being shopped to new owners, may end up needing to do the same.

Brown would be a phenomenal fit on the Raptors, an All-Star level player at a clear position of need. He can shoot, he can score, and he plays great defense. He can match up on opposing guards and wings and leave Barnes to rove behind in help defense, exactly as he and Jayson Tatum thrive defensively in Boston. On offense, Brown doesn't need to bear the playmaking burden with Barnes and Quickley around, so he can focus on attacking and scoring.

If Brown were the one to leave, the Raptors should place a call ASAP. He would be a spectacular addition and help the Raptors ascend at least a level. He plays the most valuable position in the sport, has proven himself on the biggest stage, and he would be an ideal star to pair with Scottie Barnes for a future of contention.
