Takeaways from Toronto Raptors overtime win vs Charlotte Hornets
A career night for Terence Davis
After Nick Nurse hung him out to dry after the loss against the Portland Trail Blazers, a game in which he played only eight minutes, Davis was pushed into the starting role to take over from Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who had the honours the previous night.
Boy, oh boy, he did not disappoint, coming up with a career-high night, highlighted by a poor pass that actually turned set up the game-winning free throws for Serge Ibaka. That was followed up by shutting down Terry Rozier as he missed a potential game-winner, and then trash-talking the Charlotte man after the miss. Beautiful stuff.
Davis had a team-high, and career-high, 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range, adding team-high 11 rebounds and five assists to the proceedings. His emergence into the limelight has been a joy to watch, even if the past few games have been a labour of love.
No matter, as Davis rectified the situation with a superb outing against the Hornets, and was a team-high plus-20 on the night. He continually made the right decisions, showed composure, and did a great job defending the glass when Ibaka began to tire.
His first NBA start turned out to be his best game as a pro, go figure.
